How to troubleshoot scanning issues in security applications?

The security app is one of the crucial programs for your device. Your other applications will work reliably if your PC is secured. To protect your PC or laptop from all threats, you need a good security application. Antivirus provides various tools like malware scanner, junk cleaner, firewall, file shredder, VPN, etc to keep the device secure. If the antivirus scanner is not working, your device becomes prone to malware attacks. Don’t compromise your device security and repair your security application immediately.

  5. You have another antivirus on your PC
  6. Some system files are not working
  7. Junk files are interrupting the scanning function
  8. Corrupted program files

Troubleshooting scanning issues in security apps

Restart your device

When the scanning process interrupts, you should restart your device. The error can appear due to any runtime issues. You can easily fix the runtime errors by restarting the device. Close your antivirus and other programs. Restart your device and click on your antivirus icon. Go to the dashboard and now tap the Full Scan option. Antivirus will start scanning your device.

Install a compatible security program

If you have installed a new antivirus and it is not scanning the device then check for resource requirements. Many times, users mistakenly install incompatible programs on the device. If the PC is not providing all the required resources, your program won’t run. Go to your antivirus and check the resource requirements. If the program is not compatible with your device then remove it. If you have a paid program then cancel its subscription.

How to cancel McAfee subscription?

Open your antivirus account and click on Profile. Select Subscription and check for the active program. Hit the Cancel button next to it and tap on Confirm. After canceling the subscription, remove the setup. Install only compatible applications on your device.

Repair system files

Sometimes, errors can appear when the system files are not working. These files are crucial to run applications on the device. You have to fix the files to repair the error. But finding and fixing system files on a PC is difficult. Even if you find the corrupted file, any wrong edit can lead to more issues. You should only repair the file if you know the correct steps. Otherwise, ask any expert for help. You can also run the sfc/scannow utility tool to repair system files.

Remove all junk from the PC

Junk often interrupts malware scanning. These are unnecessary files on your computer. You should remove junk like temp files regularly from the device. Junk files are not malicious but can interrupt certain processes. When an antivirus scans the junk, it can get stuck. You can easily fix the error by removing all junk from your device. Run the cleanmgr tool and it will remove all junk files. Now restart the device and run a system scan.

Check RAM on the device

Your antivirus won’t run an automatic or manual scan if the RAM is very low. All applications require RAM space to run. If the RAM is very low, your computer will only allow system programs. To run your antivirus, you have to increase the RAM space. Check for the startup applications. These applications start running in the background when you turn on the PC and accumulate lots of RAM space. Remove unnecessary applications from the startup. Now restart the device and try to run your antivirus. If the antivirus is still not working then check for other solutions.

Repair registry files

Check the registry files of your security application. Antivirus won’t scan your device if the registry files are corrupted. These files are necessary to find the correct path. Go to the registry editor and repair the corrupted register files. Run the Regedit tool and the registry editor will open. Start looking for antivirus-related registry files. Before editing any file, create a backup key to prevent any damage. Now copy the files and save them with the .reg extension. Start repairing the corrupted registry files and then check for scanning errors. Edit registry files only when you know the correct steps.

Check for subscription

If you are using a paid antivirus tool then check the subscription. Your program won’t scan if the subscription has expired. Open the dashboard and click on Profile. Go to subscription and you will see the remaining subscription days. If the program shows Expired status then click on Renew button. Enter the required details and renew your subscription.

Install only one antivirus on your PC

Don’t use multiple programs on your device. If the scanning process is getting corrupted often then check for installed applications. Another antivirus or any malicious program can interrupt the scanning program. To fix the error, remove the interrupting app from the device. Open the Apps folder and check all programs. If you see another antivirus or any security app, uninstall it. Now, check malicious programs like any suspicious third-party app. Uninstall the application and restart the device. Now run a powerful system scan to remove all malware from the device.

Reinstall the security application

You can try reinstalling the security program. The error occurs when some program files are corrupted or missing. Sometimes the user deletes program files mistakenly. Fixing program files is difficult. Instead, you can reinstall it. Remove the corrupted program from the device. Install a new antivirus setup and run a system scan.
