A Brief Outline of the Microsoft 365 Admin Roles and Responsibilities

Organizations or business enterprises subscribed to the Microsoft 365 or Office 365 cloud computing service must assign their employees the right admin roles. These admins will have access to the organization’s private information; thus, it is crucial that the right professional is selected and assigned the right admin roles. Microsoft 365 comes with a set of admin roles that are designed to allow users of the organization to work within their specific domains. Here are the Microsoft 365 admin roles:

·         Global Admin – These administrators will have access to the data and almost all management features across Microsoft online services. The person who signed up for Microsoft online services becomes a global admin by default and they can assign other global admins. Global admins have permission to reset passwords for all users, unblock another global admin, add and manage domains. ·         Groups Admin – These administrators manage all groups across the admin centers, including Microsoft 365 admin center and Azure Active Directory (AD) portal.

·         Helpdesk Admin – These administrators help non-admin users to reset passwords and can force them to sign out. They also manage and monitor service requests and health.

·         Service Support Admin – These admins have additional admin roles to open and manage service requests, view and share message center posts, and monitor service health.

·         Office Apps Admin – These admins use the Office cloud policy service to create and manage cloud-based policies for Office apps. They also manage and monitor service requests and health along with the What’s New content that users see in their Office apps.

·         Teams Admin – These admins have access to and manage the Teams admin center. Managing meetings, conference bridges, and organization-wide settings are some other roles of the Teams Admins.

·         SharePoint Admin – These admins have access to and manage the SharePoint Online admin center. They can also create and delete sites as well as manage site collections and global SharePoint settings.

·         User Admin – These administrators can add users and groups, assign licenses, manage most users’ properties, manage user views, update password expiration policies, manage service requests, and monitor service health.
