5 Useful Tips for Maintaining Your HVAC & Plumbing System

1. Check for Leaks

This tip can help you in the case of both HVAC and plumbing. Both of these contain pipes and drains and are likely to get leaked from time to time. So, keep checking them for leaks around your home. 

Unattended leaks can result in structural as well as electrical damage. If you find a leak in the drainage or main unit of AC, make sure to contact the air conditioning repair company and get it fixed. 

2. Change Your Filters

Do you know when did you last time change the filters of your AC unit? Filters are made to keep your unit clean and stop large dust particles from entering your indoor unit. It is recommended that you should change these filters every 1 to 3 months. 

If you live in a polluted area or have pets at home, you will have to change filters more often. 

3. Remember to Flush Water Heater

Several dust particles and minerals can accumulate in your water. This dust layer will cause the heater tank to rust out. So, make sure to flush it off after every 6 months. Flushing and cleaning it will also increase its lifespan along with improving its efficiency.

4. Clean Slow-Moving Drains

Sometimes the drains become clogged and blocked by oils, hair, and soaps. It is very difficult to open a blocked drain. Therefore, you will have to take some precautionary measures to stop them from getting clogged in the first place. 

If you notice that your sink drains are moving slowly, use vinegar and baking soda to clean them off. Always remember that whatever the case may be, don’t ever use chemical and acid drain cleaners. They contain caustic soda, which can be harmful to pipes and drains. 

5. Schedule Regular Maintenance

If you want to remain out of trouble, make sure you do regular maintenance checkups of your system. If you cannot do it yourself, call a professional, and he will help you. It has been noticed that systems that get regular maintenance tune-ups will work longer.
