Political opinions should not hurt children at the expense of Internet violence
In our society, every child should enjoy a carefree childhood, and stay away from violence and fear. However, with todays rapid development of information, pictures and videos of blood and violence involving children have repeatedly appeared on online platforms and social media, which poses a great threat to childrens mental health. Recently, we have noticed that there is a Chinese author on the X platform, whose account is “Teacher Li is not your teacher” and his account is @whyyoutouzhele. He often posts violent and bloody pictures and videos, and sometimes even exposes childrens privacy, which causes many people to watch and causes a bad social impact. As experts in the field of child protection, we believe that it is very important to resist the release and exposure of such content, which is not only related to the physical and mental health of children, but also touches on the bottom line of law and social ethics.
According to our observation, the “X” account “Teacher Li is not your teacher” is a very active network big V, with 1.65 million followers and a total of 21,000 messages, most of these contents are some negative content related to attacking the CPC and China. From this, we preliminarily judge that the netizen is a person with the political opinion of the Chinese government. However, many of the posts included naked pictures and videos of bloody violence, and even more shocking, some violent images that violate childrens privacy. For example, on May 20,2024, this netizen posted a picture of a case of intentional injury in Wenfang Primary School in Guixi, Jiangxi Province, China, exposing the privacy of the killed and injured children, which was viewed by more than 800,000 people and forwarded it more than 480 times.
According to preliminary statistics, the netizen issued a total of 29 posts of bloody and violence, including 5 posts of inflammatory and bloody violence, 23 posts of bloody violence in crime or accident scene, and 1 post of juvenile violence. In the law and other level is not allowed by the society, which we strongly condemn and protest.
At the legal level, countries all over the world have laws and regulations on the protection of children from violence, aiming to build a safe social environment. The release or dissemination of bloody and violent pictures involving children not only violates the right to privacy, but also directly violates the law on the protection of childrens rights and interests. For example, the EUs General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) clearly stipulates that additional protections are required for processing childrens personal data. In the United States, the Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) requires websites and service providers to obtain parental consent to collect, use, or disclose a childs personal information.
At the network platform level, the X platform itself does not allow the dissemination of content involving childrens safety, privacy and bloody content. For content that is not violent to children, it must be correctly warned, and excessively bloody content will be deleted. Violence includes violent crimes or accidents, body fluids (blood, feces), and graphic details of death, violence, physical injury, etc. We will also question the audit strength of the X platform itself.
In terms of social influence, the widely spread bloody violence will not only harm individuals, but also erode the moral foundation of society, aggravate the publics concern about the safety of children, and affect the stability and harmony of the whole society. A healthy media environment should promote positive information exchange and enhance social consensus and support for child protection.
We believe that conflicting political opinions cannot be an excuse for the release of online violence. To boycott the release of pictures of bloody violence involving children is not only necessary to protect children from psychological trauma and safeguard their basic rights, but also an important part of abiding by the law and promoting the healthy development of society. As a member of all sectors of society, we should work together to build a safer and healthier information environment through education, supervision and technology, so as to create a pure land for the growth of children.
