Activities On Marco Island

A vacation with white sand beaches, lots of activities, and easy access are what you are looking for. Let us show Marco Island, Florida.

Marco Island, which is just south of Naples (in southwest Florida) is famous for its laidback culture, stunning beaches (great sanding), and proximity to the Everglades. It’s most likely you will fly to Fort Myers (RSW), hire a car, and then drive the half hour to Marco Island.

In this article, we will share our top Marco Island activities and the best Marco Island restaurants and Holiday Rentals.

Activities On Marco Island, Florida

Shelling

The Ten Thousand Islands Shelling, although it is not as well-known as the Sanibel Island shelling, the Marco Island-area shelling is the best in Florida. Between Marco Island & the Everglades are the Ten Thousand Islands. This area is mostly mangrove islands. However, there are a few beaches on the islands that are truly treasure troves. These islands cannot be reached by land, so Treasure Seekers cruises are the best way. These four-hour cruises are limited to six passengers and depart from Goodland Boat Ramp. They are experts at determining where to go based on the weather, tides, and season. I went with them on a trip and found 30 sand dollars as well as many other interesting shells. One of our travelers discovered an unusual Junonia.

Water Sports & Boating

Dolphin Eco Tour: This activity is one of the most popular on Marco. There are many boat companies offering trips on the 10,000 islands searching for dolphins or manatees. Others stop at the deserted islands to do world-class shelling.

Take the Key West Express. You will drive down to Key West in approximately 3.5 hours and then spend some time exploring the famous island. Boats depart Marco Island only regularly. However, they leave Fort Myers every year.

Rent a Boat You can rent a boat at Rose Marina or Dolphin Cove Marina. Wave Runners are available to hire for an hour. You can explore the Ten Thousand Islands by yourself, but Marco Island Water Sports recommends a guided trip. There are both private excursions departing from JW Marriott (for hotel guests) and tours leaving from Hilton.

Additional Things You Should Do

Old Marco Island is a historic district on the island’s north. This area was originally a fishing village. Now it houses many beautiful shops, wonderful restaurants, and an Inn. It’s stunning! It’s worth going over to the place for one evening. But make sure that everything is open before heading out. Many businesses are closed on Mondays or Tuesdays. Enjoy your trip with Marco Island Vacation Rentals.

Day Trip To Everglades

Because the Everglades lie so close to Marco Island, it is a popular day excursion or half-day trip. Jungle ervs were chosen over any Everglades City-based organization because it’s secluded and they have boats available every 20 minutes. However, we never saw another boat. Our skipper said that the first trip in the day will show the most wildlife (birds as well as other creatures) since the boats start clearing off. We did however spot an alligator.

Day Trip To Naples

Naples is about 30 minutes north of Marco Island. But the contrast is stark. Marco Island is very laid-back, but Naples is not. This area is well-known for being a playground for the wealthy. There are many lovely communities within the area. My favorite is the area between Gulf Shore Drive, 9th Street, and 5th Avenue. The “heart of Naples” is the area that lies between Gulf Shore Drive 9th Street, and 5th Avenue. It’s reminiscent of Beverly Hills, but more so Florida.
